Food Day 2015 – Toward a Greener Diet!

This Saturday, October 24th , make plans to clear your morning for the second annual Food Day Bash at the Market. Growing Healthy Communities Hot Springs will be hosting the event that encourages healthful, smart and locally grown eating. The Food Day rain or shine activity calendar includes:

 

  • 7:00 – 12:00 Final Scavenger Hunt Clue! Primo Gift Basket with over $500 in prizes will be awarded to the super sleuth who finds the winning certificate. Included are cooking supplies, crockpot, recipe book, farmers market coupons, Locavore video, Itz Gud Fud October Food Truck Fridays certificate, gardening supplies, Lowe’s gift certificate, seeds, YMCA 3-Month Family pass, Spa Pacers membership, Levi Hospital North Mountain 5K challenge entry, and other goodies. Stop by the information table to collect the last clue in the scavenger hunt series and then take off to find the winning certificate hidden at the secret destination.
  • 9:00 – 12:00 SNAP Van at the Market Ever wondered what SNAP is all about and if you might qualify? The DHS SNAP van will be available Saturday to discuss the program, determine eligibility and offer on the spot enrollment to those who qualify.
  • 10:00 – 12:00 Hot Springs Green Infrastructure Community Drop In Planning Day. A wonderful opportunity to offer your perspective about preserving our natural resources and creating special natural places. Stop by, weigh in, and leave your mark on our city’s future. Hosted by Parks & Trails.
  • 9:00 Yoga on the lawn – early morning stretching, weight baring, balancing, and centering exercises hosted by The Yoga Place. What a great way to start the day!
  • 9:00 Children’s Storytime – a wide array of stories that discuss the importance of trying new foods and dumping the junk in our diets. Hosted by Market volunteers and sponsored by the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service
  • 9:30 – 11:00 Children’s Games & Craft Activities – Hosted by Levi Hospital, Difference Makers of Hot Springs, Market volunteers, and others
  • 9:00 Smart Shopping on a Budget – Want to eat healthfully but think it’s too expensive? Think again! Hosted by UCA Registered Dietary Nutritionists
  • 10:00 Cooking Demonstration – Now take those wholesome goodies and put them together for something healthful AND delicious! Hosted by UCA Registered Dietary Nutritionists

11:00 Community Art Dedication & Farm to Table Meal/Fundraiser. Locally grown products artfully combined to create a celebratory Food Day Farm to Table meal. Ronin Chef Tyree Porter will feature Chicken BeBop, GiJin Cowboy, and Wooo PIG! sandwiches featuring Charlie Joe Homestead, Boss Acres beef and JV Farms. Sides include warm barbecue pasta salad and sweet potato fritters. Only $10 a plate helps support the Market’s 2016 programming. To kick off the meal a Peace Post sponsored by Johnston
