Olivia Rodrigo has released her new single and video for “Drop Dead,” offering fans an early glimpse of her upcoming third album, ‘you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love.’
The video, directed by Petra Collins, was filmed inside the Palace of Versailles, where Rodrigo roams the grand halls, dances freely with headphones on, and even rocks out on a pink electric guitar. Rodrigo posted on Instagram: “drop dead is out now!!!! I love this song so much!!! it’s the first chapter in the story of ‘you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love’ and it makes me wanna skip around and roll the windows down and make out! I was lucky enough to film the music video at the palace of Versailles a few months ago with the wonderful @petrafcollins and I’m so stoked with how it turned out. I hope you guys love it as much as I do xoxoxoxo

“Drop Dead” serves as the opening chapter of Rodrigo’s forthcoming album, due out June 12 via Geffen Records. Rodrigo reunited with longtime collaborator Dan Nigro for the project, continuing a creative partnership that shaped both her previous albums, Sour and Guts. Speaking about the new material, Rodrigo noted the shift in tone, saying, “It was a creative challenge to write from a joyful place,” adding, “When you’re experiencing that you’re connected to someone, or feeling really good, you’re not in your head thinking about bittersweet poems!”
Ahead of the album’s release, Rodrigo is also set to take on a new role, pulling double duty as host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live on May 2—marking her first time hosting after previous appearances as a performer.
